Workshop ScheduleBBCF 2012TOP

SAT 10/13 10:00AM-12:00PM

WORKSHOP 1: HOW TO CREATE AWESOME SCENES
INSTRUCTOR: Greg Tavares
LOCATION: DramaTech Theater
Greg Has written a book called - Improv For Everyone. In that book, he describe what to do, step-by-step, to create awesome scenes. That is what he is going to teach In this class - the step-by-step method outlined in his book. You will learn what he calls the three stages of an improv scene. He is also going to teach a technique that gets him on the same page with his partner - every time. He calls this technique "the Join." Click here for more info about Greg's book.

WORKSHOP 2: WRITING COMEDY OR WRITING ANYTHING TAKES WORK, EDITING SKILLS AND SELF-LOATHING
INSTRUCTOR: Mike Schatz
LOCATION: Clough Commons 272
My first job in the creative world was writing movie trailers and it taught me a few lessons I still hold dear - keep it simple, keep it honest and try to know where it's going to end before you start. That's why when you see the trailer for Leprechaun 3, you will say to yourself, "even though I SEE a Leprechaun riding a tricycle, that film SOUNDS like it has a lot of integrity". Join me for an entertaining discussion on how to approach that sketch or script that you're agonizing over.

WORKSHOP 3: SELL YOURSELF SHORT
INSTRUCTOR: Paul Marks
LOCATION: Clough Commons 278
This workshop will cover how to choose the right short form improv games to make your shows a huge success. We will cover leadership qualities that will benefit your team and also discuss the importance of the MC for each show. Our workshop will involve playing the best 12 improv games (including one puppet game) we have used over the past year. Hopefully, these games will help push up the attendance at each show!!

WORKSHOP 4: CHARACTER WORKSHOP
INSTRUCTOR: Josh Warren
LOCATION: Clough Commons 131
Have fun developing and honing characters. This workshop will focus on the keys of making a good character, such as physicality and point of view. Character study and creation is one of the most exciting and fun aspects of actin and improv. So if you feel like this is something you need work on or just love looking for reasons to be a character, this is the workshop for you.

SAT 10/13 1:30PM-3:30PM

WORKSHOP 1: YOU + ME = WE: IMPROV MICRO-TECHNIQUES
INSTRUCTOR: Greg Tavares
LOCATION: DramaTech Theater
Greg Has written a book called - Improv For Everyone. In that book, he describes a bunch of what he calls Micro-techniques. These Micro-techniques will make you seem like you are an awesome improviser, but really you will just be well trained. that is the whole theory behind Greg's book - you can train yourself to be awesome. Click here to learn more about Greg's book.

WORKSHOP 2: DEVELOPING KILLER COMEDY ROUTINES
INSTRUCTOR: Josh Harris
LOCATION: Clough Commons 272
Ever wonder how comedians craft killer routines and squeeze the funny out of a subject? This workshop breaks down the basic formulas behind joke writing, then shows you how to expand your ideas to create powerful routines. Participants will learn how to look past the obvious to discover the unique ideas behind their premises. The goal: find the comedic voice you never knew you had and develop habits that build great comics.

WORKSHOP 3: PHONY ISN'T FUNNY
INSTRUCTOR: Mandy Butler
LOCATION: Clough Commons 278
Worried you have to give up the funny to get the substance? Want to develop compelling relationships onstage, but are afraid things will get "too dramatic?" Do you think that performing FANTASTIC and connected longform is out of your reach? This workshop is for you! In grounding your work, you will discover that there is nothing funnier than human beings simply relating and reacting to each other.

WORKSHOP 4: EMOTIONAL VERSUS CONCEPTUAL
INSTRUCTOR: John Remak
LOCATION: Clough Commons 131
Examining the differences between emotionally centered scenes and conceptual scenes. Make scenes richer by focusing on the character's inner objectives and emotional state rather than just relying on external action, ideas and concepts.

SAT 10/13 4:00PM-6:00PM

WORKSHOP 1: IN IT TOGETHER
INSTRUCTOR: Tim Orr
LOCATION: DramaTech Theater
This very simple exercise will change your improv life or your money back! Capture the energy and momentum that comes from being in situations together, rather than in opposition. Focus on reacting and responding, rather than finding trouble. Super-easy, super-fun!

WORKSHOP 2: KEEPING IT SIMPLE
INSTRUCTOR: Regina Saisi
LOCATION: Clough Commons 272
Pay attention to your scene partner because the two of you are about to create magic. After a show ever find yourself regretting missing the moment? This workshop will focus on making your partner the most valuable asset you have and vice versa.

WORKSHOP 3: FILM NOIR WITHOUT DETECTIVES
INSTRUCTOR: Dave Dennison
LOCATION: Clough Commons 278
The Noir genre immediately conjures images of run-down detective offices, smokey dive bars and foggy nights down by the docks. In this class we'll play scenes in the film noir style that take place in locations and with characters that are not typically 'Noir'. We'll strip away the stereotypes and see what is the essence of the genre.

WORKSHOP 4: CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING
INSTRUCTOR: Lisa Rowland
LOCATION: Clough Commons 131
This workshop will look at the first scene of the long-form. To tell a complete story, we need to create shared history between the characters and a sense of a larger context right away. Leave this workshop with tools and approaches that will help you expertly inhabit a world as you create it.

Dad's Garage is a casual theatre in Atlanta where you can get a drink, sit with your friends, and watch award-winning Comedy Improv and never-before-seen plays. Theatre in America is often thought of as elitist and Dad's Garage is a perfect example of artists working to change that label. We do the kind of theatre we would want to see. Our improv shows are made up on the spot, our mainstage shows are all innovative and original, and our children's show is the only one of its kind being done. When we're on stage, there are few boundaries and hardly any rules. We believe in taking chances. The riskier, the better.
