WORKSHOP 1: MEISNER IN IMPROV INSTRUCTOR: Mandy Butler Grounded relationships keep scenes interesting and focused. By engaging your partner, you will also engage your audience. In this workshop, you will employ the teachings of Sanford Meisner to help you connect with your scene partner by listening, responding, and making eye contact. We will also explore the power of touch, while playing with distance between actors onstage. Get ready to get close! WORKSHOP 2: BACK TO BASICS 707 INSTRUCTOR: Jamie Moore Let's talk, discuss, and play without the poetics of troupe names. Brush up on the little things that can separate good from great and get a fresh perspective on what makes a scene successful. WORKSHOP 3: IMPROV AS AN ART FORM INSTRUCTOR: Bob Wood The philosophy behind this workshop is basic - Improv is only an art form if getting out of bed is an art form... and it is. WORKSHOP 4: PURPOSEFUL CHARACTERS, IMPACTFUL STORYTELLING INSTRUCTOR: Shannon Jenkins Start your show by creating a cast of solid characters. Then allow your plot to organically emerge. Now maintain and finesse your story while the audience hangs on your every word. Easier said than done, right? This workshop will focus on characters and the importance of their roles in crafting a compelling, cohesive story. WORKSHOP 5: DISCOVERY VS. INVENTION INSTRUCTOR: Jay Revis Inventing what's next in an improv scene is hard work. Discovering what's next is easy. This workshop will teach you to trust yourself to discover the scene instead of inventing it, and to experience improv as play instead of work. |

WORKSHOP 1: HOW TO SAVE A SCENE THAT SUCKS INSTRUCTOR: Shana Merlin We've all been there--the flop sweat, time slowing down, silent prayers sent to the improv gods to save you from this scene. This workshop will give you the confidence to deal with any of the crappy scenes that might come your way. We have 18 techniques that you can pull out to turn a sucky scene into a solid one. WORKSHOP 2: VIN DIESEL IMPROV INSTRUCTOR: Michael Joplin Tired of having scenes run on forever and not knowing when to end them? Can you hear the audience members getting restless 5 or maybe 10 minutes into a scene? Welcome to the Faster and Furiouser. Tokyo Drift time! This workshop is all about high energy and high octane. Learn how to have a lightning fast improv set that leaves the audience gasping for air. WORKSHOP 3: ROMANCE AND INTAMACY ONSTAGE INSTRUCTOR: Kaci Beeler Want to go deeper with your characters and relationships in improv? Want to get comfortable touching and being touched by your fellow actors onstage? While we can't create an entire back story for every relationship we portray onstage, we can convey greater emotional weight and depth by allowing true humanity to shine through in our scene work. Learn to close those distances on stage and get closer, you'll feel more deeply connected to your scene partners and, surprisingly enough, yourself. WORKSHOP 4: DRAMATIC IMPROV INSTRUCTOR: Roy Janik 90% of all improv is comedy, but the full range of what improv can be is unlimited. In this workshop you will:
* Get the opportunity to do dramatic work without worrying about whether or not you're being funny enough
* Learn to slow down and connect with your scene partners
* Learn to react naturally in the moment, without the safety net of "gagging out"
* Learn to be emotional without being melodramatic
* Create scenes based on and inspired by real secrets WORKSHOP 5: SELL YOURSELF SHORT INSTRUCTOR: Paul Marks In this workshop we will jump into short form improv games that get the crowd excited. We will discuss and showcase games that won't cause the audience to wonder what is going on; and, we'll work on team chemistry. The Over The Counter improv session will also go in depth and about warming up a crowd, tweaking games to make them funnier for the stage, and reviewing the qualities of a good host. It promises to be a totally different workshop experience. |

WORKSHOP 1: INTRO TO IMPROVISED SINGING INSTRUCTOR: Joey Hassid Singing can be one of the most fun and rewarding parts of an improv show. Learn some simple, fun and practical guidelines to help make your songs feel effortless to both you and the audience. (note: we will be singing in this class, with Joey on keyboard!). WORKSHOP 2: KEEPING IT SIMPLE INSTRUCTOR: Regina Saisi Pay attention to your scene partner because the two of you are about to create magic. After a show ever find yourself regretting missing the moment? This workshop will focus on making your partner the most valuable asset you have and vice versa. WORKSHOP 3: BEGINNING THE IMPROVISED STAGE PLAY FORMAT INSTRUCTOR: Dave Dennison Improvising a full length three act play has it's own set of challenges: only one character per player, only two time jumps and a single location where all the action takes place. To make it all work you have to have a solid foundation: defining, repeating and reinforcing the names, tone, location, relationships, and characters that will see this story through to the end. WORKSHOP 4: A WORLD IN AN INSTANT INSTRUCTOR: Lisa Rowland This workshop will explore the most compelling moments of a long-form improvisation: the first ones. At the beginning of a story, the characters must fully inhabit the world that the improvisors are creating in the moment. Explore the creation of a rich world and the process of creating a multi-dimensional environment that will make for a more truthful and engaging story all the way through. WORKSHOP 5: BREAKING OPEN THE MONKEY BARREL INSTRUCTOR: Kit FitzSimons Do you hate scenes that drag on, and do you dread the empty stage between them? Don't limit yourself to what "comes next" or what your form says you "have" to do. This workshop will teach you how to go to the fun--NOW. Get more post-show high-fives and handshakes than you've ever had before and never feel stuck again. It's not What If; it's What WHEN. |
